What Causes Genetic Hair Loss?

It is quite a humiliating moment when a man loses his hair at a young age, and spends the next couple of years trying hopelessly to hold onto what is left only to give up at the end.  It can be a costly and frustrating exercise, with too many questions and not enough answers.  There are so many people who have been misdiagnosed, and prescribed medication that have adverse side effects that the patient is not informed on, and later regrets.

The considerable amount of information on hair loss can also be quite daunting, and since there are so many products claiming to solve the problem, which one do you believe?  Let’s take a step back for a minute.  I am here today to tell you that hair loss is not complicated.  It is simple.  People have been confusing the issue for decades, but the confusion stops here, today.

Let’s start at the very beginning with a simple question: where on your head are you losing your hair?  Did you know that by identifying the pattern and location of the hair loss on your head, we can immediately identify the type of hair loss and ultimately what steps can be taken to solve that specific hair loss issue.

So let’s start with that.  If you are losing your hair on the top part of your head, in the crown region or the temporal regions, this means that you are losing your hair genetically.  Genetic hair loss is the primary cause of hair loss in today’s day and age and is affecting guys and girls in their teens, when conventionally this should only happen much later on in life.

The next question we need to ask is; how long have you been thinning?  This is a very important question, because people tend to only really do something about their thinning or hair loss a couple years after they first noticed that they were losing their hair.  When also gives us an excellent indication on what you can do about your hair loss in terms of treatments and procedures and, more importantly, what you can realistically expect in terms of the end result from the chosen solution.
So what can you expect if you are suffering with genetic hair loss?  The realistic expectation with topical solutions is that you can grow back what you lost in the past 3 – 5 years.  The problem with most products on the market however, is that they do not address the cause of genetic hair loss.  In fact, most products on the market today base their ethos on caffeine based solutions designed to force feed a thinning or dying hair follicle.  That is all good and well, but the actual reason why the hair follicle is dying is not what you think.

For the longest time, and up until this very day, people believe that the reason why the follicle is dying and hence the hair is thinning and falling out, is because of poor blood circulation.  This is not true.  If you surgically remove a hair follicle from any other part of the body and implant it on top of the head, the hair follicle will grow and never fall out again.

So why does this happen?  It is so simple, but people continue to overlook this one simple fact.  The receptors within the follicle on the top part of the head are different to any other follicle on the body.  This hair follicle allows a certain hormone to attach itself to these receptors which disrupts the communication between the follicle and the brain.  In other words, the hair follicle is no longer able to tell the brain what it needs, resulting in the brain not supplying the hair follicle with the nutrients and nourishment it needs and ultimately starves the hair.

Caffeine based topical solutions and products only temporarily assist by force feeding this distressed, starved follicle by increasing the blood circulation in this area, but because the problem is not being addressed, caffeine will only prolong the inevitable resulting in baldness.

It is crucial to note that this problem can be solved, and that there are solutions on the market that address this very issue in hair loss, however because the myth on poor blood circulation has filtrated the market, very few people actually know what to look for or even where to start looking. 
The true cause of genetic hair loss is in fact, a hormone called DHT (Dihydrotestosterone).  You can identify one part of that word, testosterone, which is something both men and women carry.  This is not the genetic part of hair loss. It is completely normal, and makes up our physiology. 

The second part of Dihydrotestosterone is an enzyme called 5 Apha Reductase.  This is a little enzyme passed down genetically from your mom or your dad and lays dormant in your body till the day that you produce free testosterone.  Free testosterone is also completely normal, and happens to both men and women at some stage in their lives.  In men, it usually happens between the ages of around 28 – 38, the reason for this is because men are supposed to be more fertile at this stage in their lives and are meant to be reproducing.

Women, on the other hand, produce this hormone much later on in life.  Usually around the ages of 50 onwards, which is when her estrogen levels drop and she begins going through menopause.  These are the times when free testosterone become available in the body, and if you have this genetic enzyme present, it attaches itself to the free testosterone resulting in the formation of DHT (Dihydrotestosterone).

This hormone was 10 times more aggressive than testosterone just 5 years ago, but today, there are articles coming out of the States claiming that it is 30 to 40 times more aggressive than testosterone.  So what does this mean?  It means that whatever damage this hormone was able to do 5 years ago, is 30 to 40 times more lethal today, and with the enzyme present, it speeds up the hair loss process resulting in baldness presenting itself at a much younger age in both men and women.

In conclusion, it is important to know that DHT is the primary cause of genetic hair loss, and the solution to this problem are products that are able to clinically prove their ability to rid the follicle of this hormone.
